Hide WordPress Widgets on Mobile Devices

Hide WordPress Widgets on Mobile Devices

Are you running a responsive WordPress website? Ever felt the pages becoming too long on smaller screens? Do you wish you could hide certain widgets on mobile devices? Don’t worry as we have just launched a brand new plugin that helps you optimise your website pages for mobile devices. Hide Widgets on Mobile plugin is a perfect companion for your responsive WordPress theme and lets you hide any active widget from all mobile devices with just one click by adding a check box to each widget settings!

With the increase in number of responsive websites using WordPress as a CMS, the general trend is to stack the sidebar below the main content area to display a “one column layout” and hiding certain elements on mobile devices for a cleaner look. This approach is great and works for a majority of websites, yet the only downside of it is that as the column width becomes smaller, the height of the content area grows making the page too long for the widgets in the sidebar below to stay relevant. Thankfully, there is now a ready solution in the form of the Hide Widgets on Mobile plugin and we have taken care of the performance side as well. The widgets which are selected to be hidden are actually not displayed at all on any mobile device (not just hidden via CSS media queries), making the page load quicker as well.

Furthermore, we have a brand new child theme launching soon for Clipper coupon listing theme from AppThemes called Flatter, which is fully responsive and based on “flat design”. Take a sneak peek at how it massively improves on the default design of the Clipper theme.

Multi-Region in ClassiPress Gets Even Better!

Multi-Region in ClassiPress Gets Even Better!

The weather may be indifferent in many parts of the world, while some are enjoying the sun, it is a very special day nevertheless. We are close to completing a major update to Dynamic Multi-Level Fields plugin, the most complete multi-region solution for ClassiPress, so you and your users have a much smoother experience!

Arguably the best part of the update is that it is now compatible with the excellent plugin Advanced Custom Fields for ClassiPress by Artem Frolov. There was a lot of demand for it and we have listened. Now ad custom fields linked to the user profile fields via the ACF plugin will automatically be populated in the multi-level drop downs on “Post an Ad” page.

But the goodness does not end here. We are now using AJAX to load the multi-level options in lower level drop downs based on values selected in the top level drop downs, so the pages load quicker and no unwanted data gets loaded. We have also added more settings to the plugin options page so all visible text on the front end can be localised from the admin back end itself. The new version will soon be tested with the latest development version of ClassiPress and WordPress 3.6 release candidate, so you will probably not have to update it again when we have the final release of ClassiPress 3.3.1 and WordPress 3.6. There is also a surprise in store for those who are thinking of purchasing Dynamic Multi-Level fields, but you shall find out in the next blog post announcing the release of Version 1.4!

Our other multi-region plugins for ClassiPress, the Statify Ultimate and Citify Ultimate plugins have both been updated to version 1.5.6 to address a bug with blog display. Please download the update from “My Accounts” page if you are running any of these plugins.

ClassiPress 3.3 is Responsive, So are Themebound Products!

ClassiPress 3.3 is Responsive, So are Themebound Products!

AppThemes have recently announced the release of the much improved ClassiPress 3.3. It is another major release that has seen many new features, which will impact every child theme of ClassiPress out there, including the ones in the AppThemes Marketplace. The biggest improvement being that the theme has gone fully responsive, and now uses their efficient Payments API to handle the payments. The built in coupons functionality has been removed to make way for the AppThemes Coupons plugin which works with all the themes that use the Payments API.

As usual, we have had our work cut out updating our products to work with the new version of ClassiPress, and we are almost done ensuring you can download a compatible version of your products with minimum fuss. If you have purchased Sticky on Top Plugin, you will not need to update it because these work with ClassiPress 3.3 already.

The child themes ClassiClean and ClassiEstate are fully responsive now. All other child themes and plugins have been or are being made responsive as well. If you have purchased any of the following products, then the good news is that a new version compatible with ClassiPress 3.3 is already available.

A quick reminder though, four of our ClassiPress products listed above are now sold exclusively on AppThemes Marketplace, and if any of these were purchased on  Themebound.com, you will find the new version to download in the “My Account” page with all the other resident products you have purchased. Products bought via the Marketplace can be updated from the download available from the AppThemes dashboard.

The ClassiAlerts plugin is being updated, not only to be made compatible with the most recent version of ClassiPress, but also to introduce double opt-in and a couple of minor improvements. The Statify child theme will be updated very soon as well, so keep an eye on both of these!

UPDATES

(26-04-2013) : The highlight on the Featured Ultimate plugin stopped working on ClassiPress 3.3, the plugin had been previously stated to work as is. This was pointed out by J Davey and has been corrected and a new version (1.0.2) of the plugin is available now from the My Account page. The ClassiAlerts plugin has also been updated to version 1.3 and made available with many improvements! Also, for users of JobRoller, our Multi-City JR plugin is now compatible with the JobRoller 1.7.

(10-05-2013) : The Statify child theme is now responsive and compatible with ClassiPress 3.3. That completes the full set. Enjoy!

There is a Theme for Anything! No, Really!

There is a Theme for Anything! No, Really!

First things first, it is our pleasure to be recommended by Marketer Matt in his extremely resourceful website aptly named There is a Theme for That! who took time to test our top grossing Dynamic Multi-Level Fields plugin and writing a review of it, for which we are really grateful to him. But this post is actually about the best resource to find a theme tailored for your requirements and that is There is a Theme for that (TTFT)!

TTFT is an ever growing encyclopedia of WordPress themes of all types and has already in its database, links to over 1700 themes. So you want to find a nice theme for a business directory? Or you want to find a perfect theme to showcase your portfolio? Or you are after an awesome theme made to work with the theme framework you just have to use? Or a theme for BuddyPress or JigoShop or WooCommerce plugins? Sure, there is a theme for anything at TTFT! Just click the “Search Themes” button and select the features you are looking for in your next theme and witness a match made in TTFT.

This is not something that came about overnight, and it goes to show Matt’s tireless efforts in putting together such wealth of information as a one-stop solution to finding a dream theme for your needs. I am once again thankful to him for taking the time from his busy schedule to do a review of Dynamic Multi-Level Fields, but it was not surprising considering he has a strong liking for the ClassiPress theme by AppThemes as we do at Themebound, and sees the usefulness of having a hierarchical dependency between custom fields which can be used to add multi-location capabilities to the ClassiPress theme.

Don’t forget, there only little more than two weeks left to take advantage of our holiday season discount of 20% on all our plugins and child themes until the end of January!

Project Focus: Find A Nanny in Singapore

Project Focus: Find A Nanny in Singapore

We recently finished an interesting development project for a site which matches nannies and babysitters with families in Singapore. It’s called Find a Nanny and is targeted only at the Singapore market. It is uses the Classipress theme from AppThemes, but the owner requested some interesting modifications to make it easy for nannies and families to find each other.

The first mod is the “Nanny Map” which shows the location of all nannies, babysitters and families who have registered on the site. Each info balloon on the map is hyperlinked to that person’s classified ad on the site. This makes it easy for visitors to see who is nearby. The Nanny Map nicely complements the ClassiPress built-in Google map which only shows one location at a time. The Nanny Map is the second most visited page – after the home page – on the site.

Although all advertisers may post ads for free, the site owner requested that the contact details of nannies can only be seen by logged-in families who have upgraded their account by making a payment. It is similar for nannies, they can post an ad for free, but can only see the contact details of families after they have signed up to a relatively inexpensive subscription with a one month’s free trial.

Families will never be able to see contact details of other families, even after payment, nor will nannies be able to see the details of other nannies. Anybody who has not made a payment or signed up for a subscription will not be able to see anybody’s contact details. This added level of privacy gives users the extra confidence they they may need to register on the site, and already a number of well-known local celebrities have registered, found a nanny and left, well under the radar of the local gossip columns.

Find a Nanny was an interesting development project and it goes to show what a powerful and useful combination WordPress and ClassiPress can be, especially if it is custom tweaked to give added functionality.

Have you customised ClassiPress or another application theme? If yes then, use the comments section below to share your story and if not, then feel free to let us know your thoughts in general about application themes and whether you see customising them to add features makes them useful to you.

As usual, we have been keeping the pace with this new update and all our products now work with the new version of ClassiPress, you can download a compatible version of your products with minimum fuss. Two of our plugins work with ClassiPress 3.2.1 as is, and the rest of the products have been updated already:

ClassiPress 3.2 is Finally Here! We’re Ready!

ClassiPress 3.2 is Finally Here! We’re Ready!

AppThemes have finally announced the release of the much anticipated ClassiPress 3.2 last night. It is a major release that has seen the introduction of wrappers, which will impact every child theme of ClassiPress out there, including the ones in the AppThemes Marketplace. They have brought back the option to set the number of columns in category lists by popular demand. The login and registration pages now have their own templates, so it will be easy to customise them, and the unpleasant and (ever-growing) footer menu can now be set as a custom menu. Elsewhere, the author page has been updated to display ads in a nice list, tabbed alongside the blog posts, and the re-listing procedure has been improved to make a lot more sense.

As usual, we have been busy updating our products to work with the new version of ClassiPress, and we are almost done ensuring you can download a compatible version of your products with minimum fuss. Three of our plugins work with ClassiPress 3.2 as is, and bar one, the rest of the products have been updated already:

If you have purchased any of the following plugins, you will not need to update it because these work with ClassiPress 3.2 already:

If you have purchased any of the following products, then the good news is that a new version compatible with ClassiPress 3.2 is already available.

A quick reminder though, for the ClassiClean and ClassiEstate child themes now sold exclusively on AppThemes Marketplace, and all the other products, if you have bought them on Themebound.com, then you will find the new version to download in the “My Account” page.
